Your baby

Having a baby is a very special time and we’re here to support you as you go from pregnancy to being a new parent.
Our Perinatal Team is here to help reassure you while also giving you practical advice.
We can come with you to appointments and visit you and your child in the neonatal units to support you and prepare for your child’s safe discharge home.
We work closely with the Derian House Family Support Team to make sure you are given all the information and support you need, whether it be filling in forms or helping you to relax.

Emotional and practical support

If you are feeling overwhelmed or just feel the need someone to talk to, there’s always someone at the end of the phone at Derian House. Whatever you need, just ask – we will do what we can.

Making memories

We offer play, music and art activities as well as organising days out so that you can relax, enjoy time with your child and make magical memories.

Need a break?

We offer respite care for your child and your family so that you can recharge your batteries. This can be at the Hospice in our family flats, or in your home.

Care where it suits you best

We can provide care at the hospice or at your home – we can bring Derian to you.

Understanding and planning ahead

We’re here to help the whole family understand what is happening and to translate the clinical jargon that can sometimes be confusing.
We’ll help you start preparing for whatever lies ahead, including writing a care plan that you will be able to share with everyone involved – including your GP and consultants.

Appointments

We can help you co-ordinate and come with you to meetings with specialists and hospital appointments as a familiar face or an advocate for your family.

Step down care

We can help prepare you for a safe discharge from hospital to home.
Babies with complex care needs can often spend a lot of time in hospital, so we are here to guide and support you with your child’s medication and medical equipment so that you can care for them at home.
We are on hand for advice to make sure that you and your child go home from hospital safely so that you can be a family.
