Your stay at Derian House
Family flats
Our family flats contain a lounge, kitchen and sleeping areas for the whole family, providing a home away from home allowing you space to relax and recharge.
When you arrive you will be allocated a family flat and will be given a swipe card that will give you access into the building and to the family accessible areas of Derian.
Things you need to know
Fire safety
Make sure to check the fire procedures in your room for emergencies. If you hear the fire alarm, make sure to leave the building as quickly as possible using the nearest fire exit.
Smoking
Derian House is a no smoking site. Please make sure that if you do smoke you do so off the premises. Due to the safety of our children and staff we must ask that you do not leave the building after midnight to smoke as it requires staff to turn off the alarm system.
Inside the hospice
You are welcome to use all the hospice facilities during your stay.
Families can relax in our sensory room, splash in the hydrotherapy pool, and watch films in our very own cinema. Speak to any member of the care team to book your session.
Our gardens
Smile Park
Enjoy some time in our Smile Park, set out with inclusive equipment, where children, siblings, and friends can have fun together safely.
Victorian greenhouse
Located in our main garden, our greenhouse is a hub of activity for our children and young people learning about gardening and even growing their on vegetables used in our kitchens.
Sensory garden
Enjoy the colourful sights and smells in our sensory garden, or relax by our peaceful water feature. The sensory garden sits in a central courtyard and can be accessed from children’s bedrooms so families can visit whenever they like for a sensory experience or just quiet contemplation.
Seaside Garden
Ahoy me hearties! Play pirates in the Seaside Garden and ride the (imaginary) waves on the HMS Danni. A favourite in summer months used by our children in playgroup activities.
Reflection Garden
A peaceful space for quiet reflection featuring colourful plants and flowers, shaded sitting areas and a beautiful water feature. Around the reflection pool are placed pebbles bearing the names of children who have passed.
